River Petteril Project
Eden Rivers Trust, in partnership with landowners, local people and environmental organisations, has been carrying out work on the River Petteril - once known as "The Jewel of the Eden" - to improve it for wildlife. Funding for the project has come from DEFRA and the Environment Agency.
The project has received fantastic co-operation from local farmers and nearly 4 km of riverside fencing have been installed, preventing livestock from trampling the river banks, and reducing erosion and silt in the river. Over 3200 trees have also been planted.

The improvement works have taken place on the river in between areas which are already in good condition, creating an 8km corridor of the river which is good for wildlife. We will be continuing this work in 2011 and 2012.
